Join the International Monarch Monitoring Blitz (26 July to 4 August 2024)
The International Monarch Monitoring Blitz invites community scientists from across North America to join forces to help protect and conserve the beloved and emblematic Monarch.
Data collected by volunteers each year support tri-national efforts to better understand the Monarch breeding productivity, range, and timing in North America.
Mission Monarch is a community science program that gathers data on Monarch and Milkweed distribution and abundance each year during the breeding season. Participants find milkweed, look for Monarchs, and share their observations with Mission Monarch. Participation is simple! Just complete one or more missions during the Blitz between July 26 and August 4 and add your observations to Mission Monarch. The use of “missions” allows for estimating caterpillar density.
While Mission Monarch is the primary platform for this event, participants can also submit their sightings through eButterfly. Every checklist submitted to eButterfly within the range of the Monarch in North America during the Blitz is incorporated into the Trinational Monarch Knowledge Network database.
Conducting a mission is easy and fun! From backyards to meadows, all you need is a place where milkweed is growing.
